Toni Schneider Named Permanent CEO of Bluesky

Toni Schneider has been named permanent CEO of Bluesky after Jay Graber stepped down in March. Engadget reported that Schneider, who had served as interim chief since March 2025, made the announcement four months into the temporary role. Schneider previously worked as an advisor and investor at the decentralized social media platform.

He had been founding CEO of Automattic, the parent company of WordPress. Graber stated that the company needed a seasoned operator focused on scaling and execution as it matures.

She now serves as Chief Innovation Officer. Schneider wrote that he took the job because he believes in the mission to develop and drive large-scale adoption of technologies for open and decentralized public conversation. He added that it is a privilege to help advance that mission.

Bluesky announced in June 2025 that Reddit-style communities are coming to the platform this year. Schneider said the ability to create smaller spaces and more private communities in the Atmosphere will unlock the next wave of growth and innovation.
