Top NBA draft prospect sees quick rise for Washington Wizards
AJ Dybantsa, the freshman from BYU expected to go first overall, said Monday he believes his skills will allow a fast transition to the NBA similar to recent San Antonio Spurs players.
ibtimes.co.ukAJ Dybantsa said Monday he expects a rapid adjustment to professional basketball if selected by the Washington Wizards with the first pick in the upcoming draft. The 6-foot-9 forward led the nation in scoring at 25.5 points per game during his single season at BYU while averaging 3.7 assists.
He told reporters his ability to score inside and create plays for teammates should transfer quickly. Dybantsa attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals as one of the league's player correspondents and will work at practice before Game 4 on Tuesday. He previously watched the Spurs play in Paris last year.
Draft timeline and preparation The draft is scheduled to begin June 23 in New York. Dybantsa said he has not spoken with the Wizards or any other teams since the draft combine. He has been training three times daily since the college season ended. Dybantsa described the past few weeks as slower-paced compared with the rapid college campaign.
Other college players, including Caleb Wilson, Derik Queen, Jeremiah Fears, and Kon Knueppel, have also served as player correspondents during the series. "It won't take that long, especially with my adaptability and my work ethic," Dybantsa said.
