Toronto Tempo defeats Connecticut Sun 106-102 in overtime

Brittney Sykes scored 38 points to lead the Toronto Tempo to a 106-102 overtime victory over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday at Coca-Cola Coliseum. The expansion franchise trailed by as many as 14 points in the second quarter. Sykes kept Toronto in the game, finishing 13 for 13 from the free-throw line.

Performance details Sykes hit four free throws in the final 79 seconds of regulation to force overtime and added three more in the extra period. The crowd of 8,210 remained silent during her free-throw attempts. "I just was like, 'bro, you're a 91 percent free-throw shooter,'" Sykes said.

" Sykes, 32, signed a two-year contract with Toronto on April 10. She ranks third in the league with 21.6 points per game and has helped the Tempo win four of their last five contests.

Coaching perspective Tempo head coach Sandy Brondello said Sykes has her full support. "She's just a true competitor," Brondello said. "She just poured it all into being the best she could tonight."
