Tourist Dies in Fall from Hong Kong Hotel Rooftop Pool, Injuring Seven on Ground
A 69-year-old American woman plunged from the rooftop pool deck of the Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Island in Wan Chai on Monday just after 9 a.m., killing her and injuring seven people on the ground. The impact shattered glass panels at the hotel entrance. The tourist had stopped taking depression medication in March, according to police.

The impact of the fall shattered glass panels in the hotel entrance. A 74-year-old resident was struck by the falling tourist and rushed to Queen Mary Hospital, where she was placed in intensive care. Her 77-year-old sister was among those hurt by the shattered glass.
A 40-year-old Chinese mother and her 10-year-old son were injured, as were a 41-year-old mother and her 8-year-old son. An 89-year-old American woman was also among the wounded. com reported.
Her husband had left the hotel for a doctor’s appointment one hour before the incident. The Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Island received the Best Hotel Architecture in Hong Kong award at the 2013 Asia Pacific Awards. The property is known for its stunning city views and shimmering “wrapped dragon” exterior that lights up at night.
“The glass-bottomed, cantilevered pool on the roof top, shimmers at night and has been considered to be like the gleaming pearl often associated with the Chinese Dragon,” Aedas International board member Max Connop said. “The concept of the wrapping dragon reaching for the pearl is incredibly strong and creates a unique addition to the sky-line of Hong Kong.
