espn.comTracy McGrady, who has mentored Jaylen Brown, said Tuesday that the player is frustrated with the only team he has played for in his career. McGrady added that the frustration lies deeply in the organization and other matters for which he does not have full details.
’ Not having our best player in (Jayson Tatum). You’ve seen a different side of me and what I’m able to bring to the game of basketball. So, all that stuff just came into play with him and his frustration,” McGrady said on his “Cousins” podcast. Brad Stevens said Wednesday during an end-of-season press conference that he spoke briefly with Brown on Monday and the conversation was positive.
Stevens added that Brown has not expressed any frustrations to him despite their 10 years working together. “We’ve been here 10 years together, and I do think that — obviously I love JB and everybody around here loves JB. Just like any of our other guys, as we get to the end of the season, I’ll be here and my door is always open if anybody ever wants to come in and talk about it.
Talk about their team, their place, whatever the case may be, I’m all ears. … None of (the frustrations) have been expressed to me,” Stevens said.
Brown carried a larger role this season after the team's top scorer missed most of the year recovering from an Achilles tendon injury. He responded by averaging a career-high 28.7 points per game, helping the team secure the Eastern Conference's No.
2 seed. The team led its first-round playoff series 3-1 but lost in Game 7 at home to the 76ers. Since winning a championship in 2024, the team has been eliminated before the Eastern Conference finals in consecutive seasons, both times as a heavy favorite.
Brown recently described the season as his favorite of his career. “Being able to just be a part of a group, through the uncertainty came to fight, came to compete, came and went to war,” Brown said on a Twitch stream. ” McGrady’s comments have prompted discussion about the team’s offseason plans, including potential roster changes after it fell short of expectations.
