Trae Young will sign a four-year, $212 million contract to remain with the Washington Wizards after declining his $49 million player option. The agreement follows a season in which Young appeared in 15 games and averaged 17.9 points and 8.0 assists per game.
Background on the move The Hawks traded Young to Washington in early January.
He played five games for the Wizards before a quad injury ended his season. The Wizards finished 17-65 and hold the first pick in Tuesday's draft.
Roster outlook Young can be paired with Anthony Davis and 2024 second overall pick Alexandre Sarr. The team also has younger guards Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson and Bub Carrington. Depending on the draft selection, Young could serve as the primary playmaker or mentor for the incoming rookie.
