Trae Young Signs Four-Year $212 Million Contract to Stay with Washington Wizards

Trae Young signed a four-year, $212 million contract to remain with the Washington Wizards and held a news conference in Las Vegas on July 10 to confirm the deal. Anthony Davis and the full Wizards roster attended the event. The Wizards acquired Young and Davis in trades after posting 60 or more losses in each of the prior three seasons.

The moves aim to accelerate the development of a young core that includes No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa. Young watched the Wizards summer league team defeat Utah on July 9 before the announcement. "After seeing last night, I'm just ready to play excited to be a part of this team, these guys," he said.

He added that the roster wants to compete rather than continue losing. Young, 27, has averaged 25.1 points and 9.8 assists over eight NBA seasons. Wizards general manager Will Dawkins said the team re-signed him because of his record of production and elevating teammates.

"He had a real choice as a premier free agent in this class this offseason and we're excited that he decided to come back to DC," Dawkins stated. Young noted that league-wide discussion of his contract is not new and that he focuses on the views inside the organization. He said teammates have observed his offseason work in Oklahoma.
