Trail Blazers Acquire Ja Morant in Trade with Grizzlies

The Portland Trail Blazers acquired two-time All-Star Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday afternoon. The trade sent Jerami Grant and Kris Murray to Memphis. ESPN first reported the transaction. Portland had spent recent weeks pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo before shifting focus to Jaylen Brown.

Morant creates a crowded backcourt that now includes Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday, Scoot Henderson, and Shaedon Sharpe. Deni Avdija, who averaged 6.7 assists per game last season, adds another ball-dominant player.

Brown could involve sending Holiday, Henderson, and draft picks to Boston. Boston has reportedly sought four first-round picks in Brown discussions. Portland remains one of the teams with sufficient assets to complete such a deal. Officials have indicated they remain open to further roster changes.
