New York PostA transgender athlete swept the jumping events at a California high school track meet on Saturday while demonstrators outside called for biological males to be excluded from girls’ sports competitions. AB Hernandez, a senior from Jurupa Valley, competed in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 preliminaries at Yorba Linda High School.
Hernandez recorded 42 feet, 4 inches in the triple jump, more than two and a half feet ahead of the second-place mark of 39 feet, 7 1/2 inches. The third-place distance was 37 feet, 8 inches. In the long jump, Hernandez cleared 20 feet, 4 1/4 inches, finishing more than a foot ahead of the runner-up at 19 feet, 1 1/2 inches.
Third place was 18 feet, 7 inches. Hernandez also tied for first in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches with Reese Hogan. The results prompted a “Save Girls’ Sports” rally outside the venue organized by former NCAA athlete Sophia Lorey. One grandparent attending to support Moorpark High School told Outkick that similar outcomes had occurred the previous year.
Hernandez previously competed in girls’ volleyball and has won multiple girls’ track events in prior competitions. At an earlier meet, Hogan stepped to the top of the podium after an event won by Hernandez, a gesture noted by supporters of limiting women’s sports to biological females.
