Transgender Inmate Initially Placed in Women's Prison Then Moved to Men's Facility Same Day

Marla-Svenja Liebich arrived in Germany on Wednesday after extradition from the Czech Republic and was initially taken to the Chemnitz women's prison in Saxony before transfer to a men's prison the same day, according to the Saxony Ministry of Justice.

GB News reported that Liebich, born male and previously known as Sven, had been classified by Saxony intelligence services as a right-wing extremist with reach across the state and nationwide. Liebich must serve an 18-month prison sentence handed down in 2023 for slander and incitement to hatred offences.

The individual failed to report to a different women's prison and vanished in August 2025 before Czech police caught Liebich near the border in 2026. A local prosecutor told Agence France-Presse that Liebich had been co-operative during the extradition process. Liebich changed legal gender registration to female in 2024 after Germany altered its self-ID laws while appealing the prison sentence.

GB News reported that Liebich appears publicly in women's clothing while wearing a large handlebar moustache and claimed the gender change and request for a women's prison were intended to avoid discrimination from male inmates. German prison authorities confirmed last year that placement decisions are based on inmates' registered gender rather than biological sex.

Prison management is considering how to implement the sentence.
