Travel operators expand budget options for safaris, cruises and hotel amenities
Operators are adding lower-cost tiers for safaris, yacht charters, day passes and airline seating. The changes target middle-income travelers seeking premium experiences at reduced rates.

Safari options Cycling tours and small-group departures are among the lower-cost safari formats now available. One traveler reported paying $1,500 for four nights of mountain biking and mobile camping in Botswana through Natural Selection. Shoulder-season rates at properties such as Namibia’s Etosha Mountain Lodge start at $262 per person per night on a dinner-bed-and-breakfast basis.
Group departures organized by Micato in Kenya and Tanzania allow participants to share vehicles while retaining private accommodations. The operator runs more than 400 group dates each year.
GetMyBoat merged in December, expanding an online platform for direct boat rentals. Cruise Croatia offers a seven-night voyage on a 157-foot yacht-style vessel limited to 36 guests for $370 per person. Shared charters on wooden gullet-style yachts in Turkey start at $437 per person per night and include a chef, fitness instructor and concierge.
Hotel day passes The Waldorf Astoria New York now sells day access to its Guerlain Spa for $150. The pass covers an arctic cave, steam room and sauna without requiring an overnight stay. Lake Austin Spa Resort offers a comparable $150 day pass that includes unlimited snacks, non-alcoholic beverages and use of pools and saunas.
The JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa allows day guests to use its multi-level pool complex, lazy river and nightly tequila toast. Resort Pass lists 2,000 partner properties, some of which charge 15 percent less when booked directly.
Dining and flights Several Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe offer multi-course lunches for under $100. In the United States, bar menus at properties such as Jeune et Jolie in Carlsbad provide access to the same kitchens without full tasting-menu prices.
Slate Aviation sells round-trip semi-private jet seats from New York to Palm Beach for $3,200. The flights include private lounges and working onboard Wi-Fi. Several carriers have introduced premium economy cabins on domestic routes with wider seats, amenity kits and plated meals.
