Treasury's OFAC Issues Administrative Subpoenas to Hasan Piker, Medea Benjamin Seeking Records on Cuba Convoy Travel and Funding

The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control issued administrative subpoenas to Twitch streamer Hasan Piker and CodePink co-founder Medea Benjamin seeking records on their March 2026 travel to Cuba and related communications and financial activity.

The subpoenas requested travel records, communications and financial records connected to Cuba activities, including possible contacts with Cuban government personnel or entities. The Nuestra América Convoy brought hundreds of activists, politicians, journalists and organizers from dozens of countries to Cuba and delivered an estimated 40 tons of supplies in March 2026.

Progressive International described the operation as involving approximately 650 delegates from 33 countries and 120 organizations. The convoy combined charter flights, maritime flotillas and aid shipments carrying food, medicine, medical supplies and solar panels.

Progressive International's general coordinator David Adler spoke at an event at the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples in Havana on March 21, 2026.

Adler sat in a VIP seat beside Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel at the event, where Díaz-Canel raised his fist in the air. Piker said he consulted Ben Rhodes prior to traveling to Cuba. Rhodes told Piker, "You're going to be very sad when you see it," regarding the situation in Cuba.

Piker boarded a special plane departing from Miami as part of the convoy. The plane was the same one used by CodePink's delegation. Piker credited Progressive International, CodePink and the ANSWER Coalition for organizing the flight with medical aid, solar panels and food.

He described himself as "good friends" with Progressive International organizers and identified Adler and Yanis Varoufakis by name when discussing the organization. " Adler replied, "Thanks, brother. " Piker said he went to Cuba as "a journalist" and embedded with "Belly of the Beast" while in Havana.

His Cuba documentary features an interview with Carlos Fernández de Cossío, Cuba's vice minister of foreign affairs. Progressive International was founded in 2020. , from Nov. 29 through Dec. 1, 2018.

Adler attended the gathering. Adler leads a 501(c)(3) nonprofit called Progressive International Exchange Inc. , with EIN 93-3021918. The organization reported $261,039 in annual revenue and $215,772 in net assets on its most recent IRS Form 990.

The "Progressive International" coalition is based in Athens, Greece. , graduated from Brown University as a Rhodes Scholar, and trained at Oxford University. He previously directed policy for Varoufakis' Democracy in Europe Movement and served on Bernie Sanders' foreign policy advisory team.

In 2024, Germany barred Varoufakis from entering the country for leading anti-Israel protests. Mariela Castro Espín, daughter of former Cuban leader Raúl Castro, serves on the advisory council of Progressive International. She is a member of Cuba's National Assembly.

U.S. for murder earlier in May 2026. In October 2025, Adler participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza and was detained by Israeli authorities. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel publicly intervened on Adler's behalf during the detention.

By March 2026, the Hague Group had grown into a coalition of approximately 40 countries coordinated through Progressive International. Center for American Documentary Inc. based in Newton, Mass. serves as the fiscal sponsor for Belly of the Beast Films LLC based in Ketchum, Idaho.

The Venceremos Brigade is now a fiscally-sponsored project of the People's Forum and is led by Fernando González Llort, one of the "Cuban Five" intelligence officers convicted in the United States on espionage-related charges. Fox News Digital identified 145 nonprofits, labor groups, advocacy organizations and activist collectives as part of a network mobilizing in support of the Cuban government.

The 145 organizations report about $1 billion in combined annual revenue. Piker is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. Jodie Evans posted a selfie photo with Piker in Havana.

U.S. A spokesperson from the Embassy of Cuba told Fox News Digital that it isn't engaged in any operations of malign foreign influence and is simply trying to protect the state's sovereignty.
