Treasury Secretary Urges G7 to Help Cut Off Iran Terror Financing
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called on G7 partners to join U.S. efforts to disrupt Iranian financial networks. He spoke at a Paris conference focused on stopping terror funding.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged G7 leaders on Tuesday to help the United States combat Iranian terrorism by cutting off its financial support. Bessent spoke at the "No Money for Terror" conference in Paris. He outlined a plan for more aggressive and targeted sanctions against groups that finance terrorism.
"As the United States targets the financial networks that enemy actors use to perpetrate terror, we trust that your participation here today reflects a readiness to stand with us in full measure," Bessent said. He called on European partners to designate Iranian financiers, expose shell companies, close bank branches, and dismantle proxies.
Bessent said the actions would address Iran's destabilizing activities, threats to the global economy, drug cartels, and risks to civilian lives.
The speech came during a G7 finance ministers meeting in Paris ahead of a June 2026 summit in Evian.
