Trevor Lawrence said his mind has been calmer this spring than at any point in his six-year career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The quarterback attributed the change to greater familiarity with the offense and fewer mechanical adjustments. ESPN reported that Lawrence threw 18 touchdown passes, rushed for four more scores and turned the ball over five times during the final seven games of the 2025 season.
The Jaguars averaged 34.4 points per game in that stretch, second only to the Los Angeles Rams, and won all seven contests to claim the AFC South title. Lawrence finished fifth in MVP voting. The turnaround began after a Week 10 loss in Houston.
Coach Liam Coen told Lawrence to "let it rip," prompting the quarterback to play more freely while still executing protections and audibles. Offensive coordinator Grant Udinski cited one recent practice in which Lawrence made a protection call unused by the unit for months. "Last year [there was] a lot more to take in and your mind is racing a little bit because you're thinking about a lot.
Coen added that Lawrence now visualizes plays quickly and executes without overthinking footwork. The Jaguars averaged 24 points per game through their first 11 contests of 2025.
