A federal judge set a February 16 trial date for the Virginia man charged with placing pipe bombs outside the Republican and Democratic National Committee headquarters the night before the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. U.S. District Judge Amir Ali scheduled the trial during a court hearing Wednesday.
The date follows a request from the defendant's lawyers, who cited large volumes of evidence provided by prosecutors after a roughly five-year investigation.
Prior ruling on clemency On Monday, the same judge ruled that the clemency granted by President Donald Trump for individuals charged in connection with the January 6 attack does not apply to this defendant. Defense attorneys had argued the actions were related to Congress convening the joint session the next day.
The defendant has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors and defense attorneys said they expect the trial to last up to two weeks. Both sides are scheduled to return to court on September 10 for a status conference.
