Trinity Rodman scored two goals for the Washington Spirit in a 2-1 win over the Houston Dash on July 3 at Audi Field in Washington, DC. Her second goal came in the 94th minute when she cut onto her left foot and slid a shot into the bottom corner past Houston goalkeeper Jane Campbell. It was her fifth goal of the season.
After the winning goal Rodman ran to the stands and kissed her boyfriend Ben Shelton. Shelton had traveled to the match after losing in the first round at Wimbledon to Otto Virtanen on Tuesday. He is the No.
4 seed in the tournament. Rodman called the moment bittersweet in comments after the match. “Obviously it’s bittersweet. I wish he wasn’t here, but I’m obviously happy whenever he’s able to come and support me and I get to spend time with him,” she told Victory+.
She added that she was happy to score while Shelton watched. Shelton referred to Rodman as his “lucky charm” earlier this year when she watched him win the BOSS Open in Stuttgart, Germany. Rodman had been in the stands at Wimbledon last summer when Shelton reached the quarterfinals.
