Tropical Storm Douglas formed in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. Newsweek reported that the storm was located about 1,220 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. It moved north at 7 mph, and tropical-storm-force winds extended up to 90 miles from the center.
The National Hurricane Center forecast that Douglas would strengthen through Wednesday night before weakening on Thursday. By Friday the system is expected to become a remnant low. No coastal watches or warnings have been issued.
The 2026 eastern Pacific hurricane season began on May 15. Tropical Storm Amanda formed as the first named storm at the start of June and remained over open water with no land threat.
