Former state Senate president Troy Jackson is seeking the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Maine. He lost the 2026 gubernatorial race to Gov. Janet Mills and now competes among 13 candidates ahead of a July 25 convention.
Washington ExaminerTroy Jackson is running for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Maine, Washington Examiner reported. The former state Senate president lost the 2026 gubernatorial race to Gov. Janet Mills. Jackson was endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America’s Maine chapter during his gubernatorial bid.
He had been a progressive ally of Graham Platner, the prior Democratic Senate nominee who withdrew after sexual assault allegations. Jackson has promoted endorsements from three former state lawmakers with lobbying ties. They are Severin Beliveau, who advocated for alcohol, tobacco, gambling, pharmaceuticals, and nursing homes; Ed Pineau, who lobbies for American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers and Altria Client Services on tobacco; and Jennifer DeChant, who has represented Charter Communications and natural gas companies.
Jackson describes his platform as one that takes on corporations and powerful interests while supporting working families on issues including healthcare, housing, and prescription drugs. His campaign did not respond to questions about whether the lobbying backgrounds of some endorsers conflict with that message. Thirteen candidates are seeking the nomination.
They will debate for the first time on Thursday night. The Maine Democratic Party will select its nominee at a July 25 convention. The winner will face Sen. Susan Collins in the November general election.
