Truck Driver Charged in Oregon Crash Detained by ICE for Deportation

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement took Rajinder Kumar, 32, into custody on April 22, 2026, after his release from local jail earlier that month. Kumar is being held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma and faces removal proceedings, according to the agency.

He had been initially arrested on charges of criminally negligent homicide and reckless endangering related to a fatal crash. Kumar's bail was increased to $500,000 before his release on April 2, 2026. Oregon politicians declined to cooperate with ICE regarding Kumar, allowing his release back into the community despite the pending federal interest.

Com reported that this decision came after his involvement in the November 2025 incident. U.S. Highway 20 in Deschutes County, Oregon. A Subaru Outback then crashed into the blocked roadway. The collision killed William Micah Carter, 25, and Jennifer Lynn Lower, 24.

Carter and Lower had been married 16 days prior to their deaths on November 24, 2025. U.S. illegally near Lukeville, Arizona, on November 28, 2022. He was released into the country following that entry.

Kumar obtained a commercial driver's license in California after his release. Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis stated: “This illegal alien was issued a CDL by Gavin Newsom’s California. ” Bis further stated: “Instead of cooperating with ICE law enforcement, Oregon sanctuary politicians RELEASED him from jail back into American communities.

Every time sanctuary politicians release a dangerous criminal illegal alien back into our communities, they are gambling with American lives. ” The case stems from Kumar's illegal entry and subsequent actions, with federal authorities emphasizing the sequence of events leading to the crash.
