Trump Administration Weighs Executive Order for Pre-Release Review of Advanced AI Models
The proposal would create a review group of tech executives and government officials to examine new AI models before public release. Google, Microsoft, xAI, Anthropic and OpenAI have already agreed to provide early government access. Separately, a former CFPB employee fired after filming DOGE members at agency headquarters is now running for Congress in Maryland.
WiredThe Trump administration is considering an executive order that would establish federal oversight over new AI models, according to The New York Times. The proposed executive order would create a group of tech executives and government officials who would review AI models before they are released to the public.
Google, Microsoft, xAI, Anthropic, and OpenAI have already said they would give the government early access to their models.
JD Vance told a group of regulators in Europe that the Trump administration would take a different approach to AI regulation than the Biden administration. "The AI future is not going to be won by hand-wringing about safety. It will be won by building, from reliable power plants to the manufacturing facilities that can produce the chips of the future," JD Vance said.
Wired reported that the potential shift comes as a surprise given the administration's deregulatory focus. Companies had already begun offering early model access even as JD Vance had emphasized building over safety concerns in remarks to European regulators only weeks earlier.
Alexis Goldstein filmed people she had never seen before who were not wearing required CFPB badges and who appeared to be accessing CFPB equipment. "I came in like I normally do. I drop off my toddler at daycare.
C. "We are told over and over again that we are supposed to report suspicious activities, that we are supposed to defend the sensitive data that we hold of American people," Alexis Goldstein said.
Alexis Goldstein said the DOGE members moved into a conference room without a window when they saw her filming, after which she entered that room. Alexis Goldstein is now running for the US House of Representatives in Maryland's 6th Congressional District as a Democrat. More than three dozen people who quit or lost their jobs in the wake of DOGE cuts are now running for office, Wired reported.
Spirit Airlines announced it was ceasing operations after 34 years. Spirit Airlines filed for bankruptcy twice in the last two years. More than 17,000 Spirit Airlines employees were affected by the company shutdown.
Julian Richardson is a Spirit Airlines flight attendant who received a company email at around 2:00 AM announcing the shutdown. "I woke up early in the morning to go to the gym, like around 4:00-ish. And like most people do, I check my phone and I saw an email that came in around 2:00 AM and it was from the company," Julian Richardson said.
Spirit Airlines maintained a safety record with no fatal crashes over 34 years of business, Julian Richardson said. The shutdown news reached employees in the predawn hours last weekend, catching many by surprise despite ongoing bankruptcy proceedings and persistent industry rumors.
