President Donald Trump said Tuesday that his administration is working on national right-to-carry legislation. He made the statement while speaking at the Mack Trucks facility in Macungie, Pennsylvania, after asking attendees whether they supported the proposal. " Sen.
Mike Lee, R-Utah, introduced the National Constitutional Carry Act in March. The measure would eliminate concealed-carry permit requirements nationwide for eligible Americans. It would prohibit states and local governments from imposing licensing requirements, fees or criminal penalties on otherwise lawful public carry.
The bill would preserve existing restrictions in certain secured locations and on private property where firearms are prohibited. It would also ensure that individuals barred from possessing firearms under federal law remain prohibited from carrying them. Twenty-nine states currently allow some form of constitutional carry.
