$700M in Federal Support Allocated for Coal Plants and Export Terminal

The initiative will direct $425 million to 13 existing coal plants. An additional $185 million in Energy Department grants will fund construction of two new coal plants, one in Alaska and one in West Virginia.
A further $75 million will go toward the proposed West Gateway export terminal in Oakland, California. The terminal is designed to handle up to 12 million tons of coal annually from Wyoming, Montana and other states. Lawmakers and governors from coal-producing states including Wyoming and West Virginia have been invited to the White House for the announcement.
