Trump posted the announcement on Truth Social.
He wrote that Pulte is working with Tulsi Gabbard on the transition. "He will remain as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and Chairman of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac," Trump wrote. Pulte will replace Tulsi Gabbard, who revealed in May 2026 that she would resign as Director of National Intelligence on June 30.
Gabbard said she is stepping down to support her husband in his battle with a rare form of bone cancer. Gabbard posted an update last week about her husband's surgery. She said the procedure to remove bone and surrounding tissue lasted almost seven hours and was successful.
"He had a rough night and is in a lot of pain but is finally home resting," she wrote on X. "Now recovery begins. We’re so grateful for the outpouring of prayers and kind messages from all of you. " Trump announced Pulte's appointment last week.
Gabbard has not commented on the appointment.
