Washington ExaminerHe had confirmed his attendance 11 days earlier following an invitation to a private dinner at the Palace of Versailles. The summit follows last year's G7 meeting in Canada, where Trump departed early after a session on wildfires. French organizers moved the timetable one day later to accommodate his schedule.
A G7 diplomat stated that Macron must set aside customary disagreements to host a successful summit. The diplomat noted strained relations over responses to the Strait of Hormuz and upcoming NATO meetings in Ankara. Senior administration officials said the United States seeks candid discussions on trade, economics, and foreign policy.
They added that the administration aims to address persistent problems through direct conversations. Alex Gray, chief executive of American Global Strategies, said the Iran announcement improves Trump's position. Gray stated the president can now pursue an agenda focused on Middle Eastern issues, trade, and technology regulations.
At least 75,000 people watched from the Ellipse, and fighters prepared in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
