Multiple musical acts had backed out of a Washington concert series scheduled to begin June 25 on the National Mall. Country singer Martina McBride and Bret Michaels, frontman of the 1980s band Poison, were among those who withdrew, with some artists citing the event's politicization. The concerts were organized by Freedom 250, a Trump-backed public-private entity.
The remaining lineup includes Vanilla Ice and C+C Music Factory. Trump has sought to shape the 250th anniversary events. On June 14, his 80th birthday, he staged a mixed martial arts fight in a specially constructed arena on the White House lawn.
The concert series was scheduled around the July 4 holiday as part of major events on the National Mall.
