Iran Shoots Down U.S. Helicopter as Trump Says Nuclear Deal Possible in Days

He added that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen immediately upon signing. Trump made the remarks early Tuesday after attending the NBA Finals in New York.
U.S. response. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned the United States not to abandon its commitments in the ongoing diplomatic talks.
Ghalibaf said Iran would escalate its response if negotiations fail. The original ceasefire was announced on April 7 and was intended to give both sides two weeks to finalize a deal. Two months later, no agreement has been reached.
Trump has predicted an Iran deal 38 times since March 23, according to a CNN count. He acknowledged friction in an interview with Axios over the weekend before June 9, 2026, and blamed a side scuffle between Israel and Iran for jeopardizing the deal. Iran reportedly suspended talks following Israeli operations in Lebanon.
Trump said the pattern of past predictions was different this time. Prediction markets priced the probability of a deal by June 30 near 22 percent and by July 31 at roughly 36 percent. Brent crude recently traded around $86 a barrel on June 9, 2026, down from above $110 in mid-May on earlier ceasefire optimism.
The Strait of Hormuz, which moves around a fifth of seaborne oil, has been effectively closed since late February. Executives at Exxon Mobil Corp. have warned that global inventories may be running dangerously low.
The United States Oil Fund LP has roughly doubled year-to-date.
