Trump Concludes Three-Day Beijing Visit After Two Rounds of Talks With Xi Jinping

U.S. President Donald Trump left Beijing for Washington on May 15, 2026, wrapping up a three-day visit that included two rounds of summit talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump boarded Air Force One in Beijing after receiving a lively send-off, departing directly for the United States.

Trump held the second and final round of talks with Xi at Zhongnanhai on May 15. The first round took place on May 14, one day after Trump arrived in Beijing on May 13 directly from Washington aboard Air Force One. He traveled accompanied by the CEOs of Boeing and Citigroup.

The two leaders discussed trade, Taiwan, the Israel-Iran conflict and other issues, with both sides expressing a desire for cooperation despite clear differences. U.S. and China over Taiwan remained.

-Israeli war with Iran, Taiwan and other key issues. China’s Foreign Ministry called the Iran conflict unnecessary, urged that it not continue, and stated that the use of force leads nowhere. U.S. and China expressed differing views on responsibility for the conflict. The ministry added that the Strait of Hormuz should be opened up as soon as possible.

U.S. president to China since 2017. Trump previously met Xi in person in Busan, South Korea, in late October 2025. The two are expected to meet several more times in 2026, including during Xi's anticipated visit to Washington in September 2026.
