Trump Says Iran Ceasefire Talks Ended, Reaffirms Nuclear Red Line at NATO Summit

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that ceasefire negotiations with Iran were over after the latest exchange of attacks. Speaking to reporters at a NATO summit in Turkey, he added that he was no longer seeking a diplomatic resolution. Trump stated that Iran was again trying to kill him and that he was number one on a new kill list released the previous day.

“There was another list that came out yesterday, and I’m number one on it. ” The Biden administration had earlier uncovered an Iranian plan to assassinate Trump during the 2024 campaign.

The Trump administration announced in March that it had killed the officials behind that plan. Four former senior Trump officials told the Washington Examiner that the plot had at least partly motivated the decision to launch the war in the spring. A former National Security Council aide from Trump’s first term described the motivation as “personal” on Wednesday.

Another former senior White House aide said the core driver remained Trump’s long-standing focus on preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, a priority he held before taking office in 2017.
