President Donald Trump left the White House on Tuesday for a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping that was delayed six weeks by the war in Iran. Filmmaker Brett Ratner, joining the delegation, visited the press cabin on Air Force One and plans to scout locations and meet cast and crew for a fourth Rush Hour film. The trip includes five billionaires whose combined net worth totals $870 billion.

The summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping was delayed for six weeks amid the war in Iran. Trump said Tuesday he is going to have a “long talk” about the Iran war with Xi, though he added shortly after, “We have a lot of things to discuss.
” Also joining President Donald Trump on the China trip are Elon Musk, Stephen Schwarzman, Tim Cook, Larry Culp, Larry Fink, Kelly Ortberg and David Solomon.
The five billionaires on the trip are worth a combined $870 billion, Forbes reported. Ratner’s trip continues his return to high-profile projects after years of Hollywood exile. He had not directed a movie since Hercules in 2014 prior to Melania.
The filmmaker helmed an Amazon MGM Studios documentary on First Lady Melania Trump that followed her for the 20-day period preceding President Donald Trump’s second inauguration in 2025. Brett Ratner spent months at Mar-a-Lago while filming the Melania documentary in the weeks leading up to President Donald Trump’s second inauguration. The Melania documentary opened in theaters in January 2026.
4 million in the United States and Canada and $16 million at the box office. Ten percent of critics’ reviews on Rotten Tomatoes for the Melania documentary are positive. Amazon paid $40 million for the rights to the Melania documentary and spent $35 million on marketing and distribution.
Melania Trump received 70 percent of the $40 million Amazon paid for the rights to the Melania documentary, or more than $28 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. President Donald Trump has pushed for a fourth Rush Hour film. The Rush Hour films were released in 1998, 2003 and 2007.
Ratner’s spokesperson Victoria Palmer-Moore said he will use the opportunity in China to scout locations for the forthcoming Rush Hour 4, which Trump has urged Paramount to develop should billionaire owner Larry Ellison, a longtime friend of President Donald Trump, complete his purchase of Warner Brothers.
Ratner is developing a forthcoming docuseries on President Donald Trump. He defended the Melania documentary’s price tag, saying the backlash is “silly” because it is also funding the docuseries, and that he used the money to license music and hire “top of the line” cinematographers.
Brett Ratner was fired by Warner Brothers in November 2017 after six women accused him of sexual assault in 2017, including Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge. Olivia Munn accused Brett Ratner of masturbating in front of her on the set of After the Sunset in 2004. Natasha Henstridge alleged Brett Ratner physically forced himself on her in the early 1990s when she was 19.
Six women in total accused Brett Ratner of sexual misconduct in a 2017 Los Angeles Times report. Brett Ratner has long denied any allegations of wrongdoing and denied the allegations at the time through his attorney Marty Singer. Brett Ratner was never charged with any crimes in connection to the accusations.
Photographs of Brett Ratner were released as part of the Justice Department’s effort to put out files associated with investigations into Jeffrey Epstein. In 2023 Brett Ratner moved to Israel. Brett Ratner’s best-known directing credits include the Rush Hour franchise and X-Men: The Last Stand.
His RatPac Entertainment production company financed multiple Oscar-winning movies. The Melania documentary was his first film project since the 2017 allegations and his first attempt at the documentary genre.
