Trump Says Netanyahu Will Not Be Arrested in the U.S.

President Trump said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested while visiting the United States. Trump stated that Netanyahu is conducting a campaign against Iran and that Iranian leaders, not Netanyahu, should face accountability for decades of violence.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani told The New York Times his administration is examining whether city authorities can detain Netanyahu when he attends the UN General Assembly in early September. Mamdani described Netanyahu as a war criminal who belongs in The Hague, while adding that any action would stay within existing legal limits and that the city would not create new laws for the purpose.

The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in November 2024 over alleged war crimes in Gaza, according to ynet.co.il. Israel does not recognize the court's jurisdiction. Netanyahu has attended the annual UN General Assembly in New York in prior years.
