President Donald Trump said he will not unfreeze Iranian assets or lift any sanctions before a peace deal with Tehran is completed. Speaking in an interview with NBC News' Meet the Press published June 7, 2026, Trump stated that any steps to release funds or ease penalties would follow an agreement. "Comes after," he said.

"Yeah. If they behave, if they do a good job, we start talking," Trump said. He added that he is not requiring Lebanon to be part of a short-term deal with Iran.
