Trump Praises Incoming UK Prime Minister Burnham on North Sea Oil, but Labour Says Manifesto Ban on New Licenses Stands

President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Sunday praising incoming British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and stating that people in Aberdeen, Scotland, were dancing in the streets over Burnham's reported stance on North Sea oil. In the same post, Trump said Burnham would be opening up, all the way, the invaluable North Sea Oil.

Trump wrote that such great potential in the UK starts with opening North Sea oil and criticized wind turbines near Aberdeen as old and horrible looking windmills that should be moved.

Andy Burnham is scheduled to formally replace Keir Starmer as prime minister on Monday after being elected Labour leader unopposed. Burnham has served as mayor of Greater Manchester since 2017 and secured the backing of hundreds of Labour lawmakers. The incoming government is expected to make early decisions on several high-profile North Sea energy projects.

Labour deputy leader Lucy Powell stated on Sunday that Burnham remained committed to the party's existing manifesto and that any changes would be more a change of emphasis than a new policy. Powell said on the BBC that Burnham would remain committed to Labour's 2024 election manifesto while being bolder and more ambitious in carrying out its goals.

According to the BBC, Burnham is expected to support new oil and gas drilling measures while maintaining commitment to Labour's broader energy agenda.
