President Trump announced he would replace a planned 20 percent United States reimbursement fee on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz with trade and investment deals from Gulf states. Trump posted the decision on Truth Social, writing that it followed conversations with Middle East leadership.
"Based on highly productive conversations with Middle East leadership, I have decided to replace the 20% United States Reimbursement Fee with Trade and Investment Deals that the various Gulf States will be making into the United States," he wrote.
The U.S. military conducted a seventh wave of strikes on Iranian targets after the announcement, according to the Financial Times and CBS News. The blockade on Iranian shipping remains in place.
