Greenland holds deposits of rare-earth elements and other critical minerals. Geologists have confirmed that the island contains 25 of the 34 raw minerals classified as highly critical by the European Union. China currently controls 90 percent of global rare-earth processing capacity and accounts for about 70 percent of global supply.

Greenland, and Danish officials are discussing a deal that would include the proposed veto powers. The same framework would also allow Washington to raise concerns about potential Chinese acquisitions in Britain. U.S. president in nearly a decade.
