President Donald Trump posted a photo of a $100 bill bearing his signature on Truth Social on July 3, 2026. ZeroHedge reported that the image shows the first paper currency signed by a living president. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent posted on X on July 4 that the currency recognizes the nation's 250th anniversary.
“There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S dollar bills bearing his signature, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the Semiquincentennial,” Bessent wrote. The Treasury Department announced in March 2026 that Trump’s signature would appear on future U.S.
Paper currency alongside the Treasury secretary’s. U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach said the change commemorates both the anniversary and Trump’s economic legacy. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Jeff Merkley sent a letter in April 2026 questioning whether Trump directed the change and requesting cost details to taxpayers.
They argued the Treasury should focus on inflation and housing costs instead. The Commission of Fine Arts approved designs in March for a 24-karat commemorative gold coin showing Trump leaning forward over a table. The coin does not appear on the U.S.
