President Trump signed a presidential memorandum on May 5 restoring the Presidential Fitness Test that had not been active since 2013. Bryson DeChambeau, who was appointed chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition in 2025, attended the event at the White House and thanked the president for the action.
" He recalled participating in the test as a child and receiving an award. The memorandum directs the reestablishment of the program for students across the country. Gary Player also attended the event and addressed the youth of the United States. " Following the signing, children participated in the Presidential Fitness Test on the White House lawn.
This led to a push-up contest between DeChambeau and Player. DeChambeau then performed pull-ups while the president and others watched.
DeChambeau, Player and President Trump joined children for a golf session on the White House putting green. The president also took putts during the activity. The events were part of an effort focused on youth fitness. The Presidential Fitness Test was originally a long-running program for school-aged children before its discontinuation in 2013.
Its restoration returns a standardized physical assessment and awards component to schools nationwide.
