President Donald Trump posted on social media Sunday that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will resign. Trump wrote that Starmer “will resign” after having “failed badly on two very important issues, Immigration and Energy.” He added, “I wish him well!”
Trump did not speak with Starmer over the weekend. The post referenced media reports about Starmer’s position. Trump also posted about Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Saturday regarding efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Meloni responded on Instagram.
UK Business Secretary Peter Kyle addressed speculation about Starmer’s future on Sunday. Kyle said reports that Starmer could announce a resignation plan as early as Monday are speculation. He added that Starmer was reflecting on the political realities he faces.
Downing Street stated that Starmer’s position remained unchanged from Friday, when he said he will not “walk away” from Downing Street and will stand in any potential contest.
