A 2025 Treasury review showed the levy raised more than £800 million in 2024–25, an increase from £678 million the prior year. Officials said the tax ensures large multinational businesses contribute fairly to public services.
Trump issued a similar threat in April, saying tariffs could be imposed unless the U.K. reversed its digital services tax. The current warning precedes a July 4 deadline for the European Union and United States to begin implementing a tariff deal that caps most EU exports at 15%.
