Trump Says U.S. Military Has Orders to Destroy Iran Areas for One Year if Targeted

President Trump stated on Truth Social that the U.S. military has orders to "completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran" for a one-year period if the Iranian government attempts to assassinate him. He said 1,000 missiles are locked and loaded and aimed at Iran, with thousands more to follow immediately under those circumstances.

Trump told The New York Post that he has left instructions to bomb Iran at levels never seen before if anything happens to him.

Banners vowing revenge against Trump appeared in Tehran during the July 9 burial of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on the first day of the war. Iran has openly sought his assassination since 2020.

The International Energy Agency projects global oil demand will drop by roughly one million barrels per day in 2026 due to the conflict. Global oil consumption in May 2026 averaged 97.9 million barrels per day, down 5.5 million barrels per day. Many crude oil tankers have been stranded for over three months, unable to navigate the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran stated that an errant group of hardliners fired on commercial ships earlier in the week to undermine negotiations. Iranian official Hossein Afshin stated that Iran's research infrastructure has suffered about $300 million in damage in the war.

A U.S. military delegation arrived in Lebanon on Friday to help implement a framework agreement reached on June 26 aimed at ending fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. The first pilot zone for Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory is expected to launch within days of July 10.

The Israeli army hit the outskirts of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon in an air raid, followed by a drone attack five minutes later. The Israeli military killed a Hezbollah fighter and another individual within its declared security zone in southern Lebanon.
