Xi Jinping said the “great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation” and “Make America Great Again” can go hand in hand. Trump called his visit a “great honour” and praised the talks as “extremely positive.” He invited Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan to visit the White House in September.
The delegation at the subsequent state banquet included Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. The leaders later toured the Temple of Heaven.
The future of Taiwan was on the agenda of the talks. China claims Taiwan as part of its territory. Taiwan is a self-governed island and a major source of tension between Beijing and Washington. China’s foreign ministry warned of clashes and even conflicts if the Taiwan situation is not handled properly.
Both men used nearly identical language to describe the bilateral ties during the day’s events.
