National Security Bureau Director-General Tsai Ming-yen said China may attempt some maneuvering during the talks.

In November, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said a Chinese attack on Taiwan was of concern to the region and could constitute “a survival-threatening situation” for Japan, requiring the use of force. Trump made back-to-back calls with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Xi Jinping in November.
