Trump and Xi Meet in Beijing, Discuss Trade and Iran Conflict
The two leaders met over two days in Beijing, addressing trade, regional security and bilateral ties. President Trump announced Chinese purchases of American oil, soybeans and Boeing jets while both sides committed to a stable relationship. The summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping concluded on Friday, May 15, 2026. Both leaders spoke warmly of the meetings before Trump departed Beijing Capital International Airport for the United States. Trump and Xi met at China’s Zhongnanhai compound on May 15.
They addressed the media there, then had tea, walked in the centuries-old gardens and ate lunch featuring seafood dishes, Kung Pao chicken, scallops, beef and mushrooms, stewed beef buns and dumplings. The previous day the two presidents held a closed-door session on May 14, 2026 that lasted roughly two hours and 15 minutes.
Trump reviewed troops with Xi at the Great Hall of the People and the pair visited the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.
U.S. ” Xi said the visit is beneficial to promoting mutual understanding, deepening trust in each other, and increasing the well-being of the people of both countries. The two sides reached important common understandings on maintaining stable economic and trade ties, expanding practical cooperation in various fields, and properly addressing each other's concerns, he said.
They also exchanged views on some regional hotspot issues. Trump told reporters, “This has been an incredible visit. I think a lot of good has come of it. ” He continued, “We've settled a lot of different problems that other people wouldn’t have been able to settle.
U.S. president said he and Xi feel very similar on Iran, want the war to end, do not want Iran to have a nuclear weapon, and want the Straits open. ” Trump told Fox News that Xi said he is not going to give any military equipment to Iran.
