TSA stated that the partnership will allow participating airports to adopt tailored security solutions while remaining under agency oversight. Officials said the effort responds to rising travel volumes, evolving threats, and funding challenges as the agency approaches its 25th anniversary.
Gold+ will offer airports the option to opt in and help shape requirements based on local operational needs. The agency said the approach could unlock new revenue opportunities and speed deployment of advanced screening technologies. It remains unclear which specific technologies or operational changes will appear at individual airports.
Philadelphia International Airport is not currently listed among the 20 airports participating in the Screening Partnership Program. A Philadelphia International Airport representative referred questions to TSA. A TSA representative was not immediately available for comment on whether the airport plans to participate.
