Europe’s largest travel operator reported a 10% drop in UK summer bookings and a 61 million euro hit from the Iran war and Jamaica hurricanes. The company said booked revenues for summer were down 7% compared with 2025. Tui still expects to deliver a full-year operating profit of between 1.1 billion and 1.4 billion euros.
The IndependentTui, Europe’s largest travel operator, reported a 10% drop in UK summer bookings as consumers hesitated to book trips and switched destinations amid the conflict in the Middle East that began at the end of February. The company took a 61 million euro hit from the Iran war and hurricanes in Jamaica.
Booked revenues for summer were down 7% compared with 2025 for its tours and airline business, with the UK market seeing a 10% decline. The US and Israel’s war with Iran prompted a shift in demand from eastern to western Mediterranean destinations, while customers displayed greater caution and made bookings closer to departure dates.
The company also cited a competitive market for travel. It expects Spain, including the Balearics and the Canary Islands, and Greece to be top destinations over the summer.
The company’s German business said last month that the Iran war cost it around 40 million euros after it repatriated about 5,000 passengers from two cruise ships anchored in ports in Abu Dhabi. The cruise ships departed safely during a pause in the hostilities and will begin their summer season itineraries in the Mediterranean from mid-May.
Tui also recorded a roughly 21 million euro impact during the first half of the financial year from hurricanes that swept across Jamaica in October last year.
The company reported an underlying loss before interest and tax, at constant currencies, of 111 million euros for the first half. That compared with a 156 million euro loss in the same period a year earlier. It is on track to deliver a full-year operating profit of between 1.1 billion and 1.4 billion euros, below previous targets of between 1.5 billion and 1.6 billion euros.
The company’s chief executive said the results give confidence for the second half of the year. The executive added that geopolitical challenges and dynamic market conditions will require dedication and flexibility. The company said it offers customers a high level of security and quality especially in turbulent times.
