Have withdrawn or declined to participate one day after the lineup was released. Morris Day of Morris Day and The Time posted on Facebook that he will not perform. Young MC posted the same day that he informed his agents he would not appear, citing concerns over political involvement.

The Freedom 250 nonprofit announced the initial performers on Wednesday for the Great American State Fair, scheduled on the National Mall from June 25 to July 10. The event is part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. The Commodores also stated on social media Thursday that the group will not perform.

Their statement said the band chooses not to publicly affiliate with any single political party. Milli Vanilli remains listed, though Jodie Rocco told The Associated Press that none of the group's members were asked to perform and expressed surprise at the listing.

250 spokesperson Rachel Reisner said the organization is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) dedicated to uniting Americans around the anniversary. She added that the group welcomes all who share the goal of commemorating the milestone. Vanilla Ice's management agency told CBS News that he remains contracted to perform on June 26 and is proud to help celebrate the anniversary.

Other artists listed for the series include Martina McBride, C+C Music Factory, Flo Rida and Bret Michaels. CBS News has contacted each advertised performer to confirm attendance.

How else this could be read

The same facts could be read as a nonpartisan congressional effort to celebrate America's 250th anniversary on the National Mall being undermined by partisan pressure on artists to boycott any event perceived as associated with President Trump.
