Karvan, 22, and his brother Kavian, 20, both from Iran's Kurdish minority, left the country on May 13 after taking part in two rounds of anti-government protests. The brothers stated they participated in the 2023 "Woman, Life, Freedom" demonstrations that followed the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody, as well as protests held in January of this year.
