Two men charged with importing seven tons of GBL into New York City
Two Manhattan residents face federal charges after authorities say they imported seven tons of gamma-butyrolactone, a substance also used as a date-rape drug. Prosecutors allege the pair brought in enough for roughly one million doses between August 2023 and June.

Mark Dygdon, 48, and Rodrigo Castro, 34, were arrested after officials said the pair brought the chemical into the five boroughs between August 2023 and June. The substance, also known as GBL, is sold under street names such as Blue Nitro and Revivarant and produces euphoric and sedative effects.

Attorney Jay Clayton said, describing the substance as “liquid poison.” If convicted, the defendants face up to 20 years in prison.
