israelnationalnews.comTwo men were stabbed in Golders Green, a heavily Jewish neighborhood in north London, shortly after 11am in what police declared a terrorist incident. The attack targeted Jewish people, according to a local security group, and occurred amid a spate of antisemitic incidents in Britain.
A 45-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after running along Golders Green Road carrying a knife. The victims, one in his 70s and the other in his 30s, are in stable condition in hospital.
The suspect allegedly tried to stab police officers and was stun-gunned before arrest. Police sealed off the end of Golders Green Road with a cordon, while two police helicopters circled overhead during the incident.
Starmer stated he knows first-hand about the anxiety such antisemitic attacks are causing in the Jewish community. Dov Forman, a 22-year-old student at King's College London who rushed to the scene after seeing WhatsApp messages, said: "Many Jews are frightened, many Jews are scared.
We are a resilient community. My great-grandmother survived Auschwitz. " Forman added that no one finds such attacks shocking anymore, describing it as inevitable, and demanded more action.
Jacob Lipsy, a 35-year-old construction worker born and raised in Golders Green, said his brother tried to chase down the attacker. Lipsy described the area as getting more hostile and expressed worry for his children, suggesting politicians should take more responsibility in their narratives, and questioned whether the area is safe for Jewish people or if they need to consider moving away.
He noted that while Westminster sends encouraging messages, action is needed.
Israel Morgenstein, a 48-year-old resident of the area for 15 years, said residents are thinking it might be time to go home, as they do not feel safe despite believing police and government are doing their best but lack training for such situations.
Sam Adler, a 37-year-old property developer, said the attack does not happen in a vacuum, pointing to normalized antisemitism, tolerated hatred, and mobs marching through London as contributing factors. He emphasized Jewish resilience but noted anger toward the government for encouraging such an atmosphere.
The Right Rev Dr Anderson Jeremiah, the bishop of Edmonton who lives in Golders Green and was walking in the same street an hour before the stabbings, said he was deeply shocked and saddened that two Jewish neighbors were targeted by hatred and violence, relieved they are receiving medical attention but devastated by the atrocity in the community.
A large crowd, predominantly from the Orthodox Jewish community including young students, gathered near the cordon. Police and volunteers from British Jewish emergency response moved among onlookers and shopkeepers, while residents struggled to pass through to their homes. Further up the road, shops and restaurants remained open with customers continuing their day.
The stabbings are feared to be the latest in a string of incidents targeting Jewish schools, synagogues, and charities over recent months. Community members expressed shock, grief, and a sense of inevitability, with some describing living in a "bubble" within Jewish areas as safer but noting risks outside it.
