Two More Candidates Register for Winnipeg Mayoral Race
Don Woodstock and Mazher Alam registered Thursday to run for mayor of Winnipeg. Six candidates have now entered the race ahead of the October 28 election.
Two more candidates have registered to run for mayor in Winnipeg. Don Woodstock, founder of JamRock Security, registered Thursday for his third consecutive mayoral campaign. He finished fourth out of eight candidates in the 2018 race and ninth out of 11 candidates in 2022.
Mazher Alam, a newcomer to Winnipeg politics, also registered Thursday. He said in a press release that he will campaign on promises to fix potholes, halt property-tax increases and reverse water rate hikes.
Incumbent Scott Gillingham, grocery clerk Chris Clacio, real estate agent Umar Hayat and funeral director Mike Vogiatzakis are also running.
While mayoral candidates may register now, candidates for councillor and school trustee must wait until June 30 to register their campaigns. The nomination period for mayor, council and school trustee candidates is Sept. 16-22. Candidates must submit valid nomination papers in order to be on the Oct. 28 ballot.
