Typhoon Kills 15 in Philippines, Prompts Evacuations in Taiwan

Fifteen people died in landslides in the Philippines and more than 2,000 residents left their homes in Taiwan as the strongest typhoon in decades approached the region on Friday. The storm's outer bands brought heavy rain that loosened soil on steep slopes, sending mud and debris into communities.

Rescue teams searched affected areas while local authorities warned residents to avoid travel on mountain roads.

Taiwan officials ordered evacuations from low-lying and hillside districts. Shelters opened to house those displaced, and transportation services adjusted schedules to account for weather conditions.

Meteorological agencies continued to track the system's path and intensity. Additional rain and strong winds are expected in parts of the Philippines and Taiwan over the coming days.
